Daily Journal Continued November 18,1998, William Thomas Thompson I will praise the Lord in all things good and bad as is His will! I have purchased 4 art books in color about 100 pages each of the great artist and one I am compared to the most is Marc Chagall on the street near the hotel at a book store at$10.00each in French. 2-VanGogh including the sunflowers and iris and the wheat fields. 3-Matisse whom I donot know aswell as the others but love to see. 4-Michael Angelo who worked for the Pope and most popular of all. Now we are on the way to the Louvre Art Museum on this final day to be in Paris and what an experience it is to see from the glass pyramid dome and their half elevator to the massive hallways that here go in all directions and are end less in length and art that is absolutely stunning. No words could ever describe all of this. I see more art here than ever in my life and it is so powerful to view,long before we reach the Mona Lisa which looked just like it does I have always seen. What is the big deal with people crowded around her in glass almost like they must worship her. All of the halls and all the walls go on and on almost forever it seems. The paintings are so tall 30 and 40 feet I guess. A book we bought at $20.00 is in English and is the best way I know to document where we could not no way get this much of the best of world art,People were taking pictures and we did also but not professional ones as the book gives at a much less cost per picture. I donot worship a picture or statue of anything. I do learn from good art. Actually I learn from any art. The protestant church stay so far away from any images due to the long history of idolworship by the Catholic Church of not just Mary,but all their declared saints in the list of socalled divine images made to worship in their mocking of God and the power of Heaven and the power of a person to pray direct. Most art is ChristianBible based and is educational for good. The crowds here are more than I could ever count on a regular day and heavy on Japanese tourist. We prepaid 3days but used only one day on the museums pass due to poor planning and the day that the museum was closed. We had planned to visit the palace on Tuesday anyway if they had not been on strike. The bus passes would have been useless as they never go where you need to go. Every minute of everyday is vital to save the time and start off right and not make any mistakes. The taxis here in Europe charge from whereever they are located when you call them. By 5p.m. we leave the Louvre and return to the hotel where we are finished,not finished seeing art but finished our strength and time awake for the third day of this travel time change and must lay down for a period of time as to rest,plus the light lunch at the cafe inside the Louvre left a bad taste in our mouth and body that turned us off to feeling bad and almost sick. We will never eat anything again that smells and taste so bad as their tuna sandwich. We were well advised to have museum passes on arrival for Paris as the Louvre had lines a mile long all day to buy tickets,we may have had to stand a half day.
